towers of pigeons |
1- The dwellings of pigeons, flight decks and nests must be exposed to the sun most of the time in order to purify the dwelling, prevent insects from multiplying, and help provide the birds with the necessary ultraviolet rays to form vitamin D.
2- It is taken into account in the design of the housing that it is always dry and far from attacking mice, and that it is of a reasonable height that enables the breeder to take care of the herd and purify the dwelling.
3- For every 3-4 pairs of pigeons, one square meter of floor space is allocated.
4- Pigeons need good ventilation, especially in the summer, so the dwellings are provided with special openings for this purpose from the front side of the dwelling, and the dwelling must be well insulated in the winter.
5- The floor of the dwelling must be raised above ground level by a distance that allows the breeder to move under the dwelling to carry out cleaning operations and avoid the breeding of mice.
6- It is taken into account that the dwellings of the pigeons are close to the dwelling of the breeder, so that continuous observation of the reared flocks is available.
7- Each pair of pigeons is allocated its own nest to achieve complete living separate from other pairs.
8- Providing enough stores to store grain and fodder for a month.
9- There should be a place to store the resulting fertilizer so that it is far from the bathrooms.
10 - The dwellings inside the barn must be connected to each other and have one entrance to facilitate the conduct of care, feeding and hygiene operations for the entire barn.
11- It is preferable that the roof of the dwelling be inclined to reduce the temperature and prevent the collection of rainwater. The front side is 2.5 meters high and the back side is 2 meters high.
12- Although the use of floors made of wire mesh, which allows the passage of blue, is more expensive than cement floors furnished with sand, it is characterized by the following:
a. Banish mice.
B. Reduce the chance of infection with parasites, especially worms .
c. Reduces the chance of increased humidity in the dwelling, which is caused by rain, spilled drinking water, or showering.
The dwellings of pigeons vary according to the place to be raised and the purpose of breeding, as well as the number of pigeons to be reared. The following are the types of housing used in breeding pigeons.
First, raising pigeons indoors:
In this method, boxes made of wood, cages made of newspaper, or sheets of iron with an area of 30 * 30 * 30 cm are used for each pair of pigeons, and these cages are hung on the walls inside the house. Pottery hoppers can be used for ease of availability in the countryside.
Secondly, breeding pigeons in farms:
The shape of the building differs according to the prevailing climate in the area in which the farm is located. If this area is exposed to varying temperatures in winter and summer, the building must be complete with walls, and wooden crates should be placed on its walls inside. In the case of areas with moderate temperatures in summer and winter, rooms can be made of wire, except for the wall on which cages or wooden boxes will be installed. The pigeon house consists of:
1- Pigeon cage:
It is taken into account when building a pen for pigeons that it be closed from the back and sides, while the front side is open to the flying yard. Usually the length of the barn ranges from 25-50 meters and its width is about 2.5 meters. Pigeons barn consists of identical production units ranging in number from 10-20 production units. It is preferable to raise 25-40 pairs of pigeons in each barn.
2- Nests of pigeons :
Each pair of pigeons must have its own nest, which provides a full living for the other pairs. There are two types of nests (single and double), and the latter type is preferred, as when the chicks reach the age of 14 days, they occupy the first part of the matrimonial nest, and the parents move to the other part to build a new nest without disturbing their developing young or other pairs of pigeons. The nests are suspended on top of each other in the form of batteries on both sides of the barn. The dimensions of one coop in the matrimonial nest are 30 * 30 * 3 cm, with a barrier made of wood with a height of 10 cm on the front side, in order to protect the contents of the nest from falling. In front of the nest, there should be a board with a width of 10 cm and the length of the nest, in order for pigeons to stand, fly, and land on it. It is preferable that the bottom of the nest be movable for easy cleaning.
3- Flying monsters for pigeons:
The pigeons' barn overlooks the flying monsters from the front. The area of the flying monsters is one and a half times the area of the hangar and the same height as the hangar. To be covered with a wire with narrow openings from all sides, as well as the ceiling. The flying yard shall be provided with a pair of boards 25 cm wide and the length of the yard, in order for the pigeons to stand, fly, and land on them.
Third, education in the towers of pigeons
The shape of the tower depends on the place where it will be built, so that the tower adds an aesthetic touch to the place in which it is located. And usually takes the shape of the tower hierarchical Obrmelia. The towers are built of mud bricks if they are built on farms, or they are built of wood when they are placed on the roofs of houses or gardens.
Pigeons' nests must be available inside the tower, and their number varies according to the capabilities of the breeder. In the case of large pigeon towers that use mud bricks in their construction, the nests of pigeons are made in the same walls of the building, or pottery hoppers are used so that they are placed inside the walls during the construction of the tower. I opened it outside the tower, and the hoppers are distinguished by the presence of a bulge at the back, which gives them a widening inside, which keeps the eggs of pigeons from falling out of the nest.
The diameter of the towers from the bottom is about 2-3 meters, and they are built on a small room and a base for the building, so that it has a door that closes tightly in order to preserve the chicks from predation or theft. It is taken into account that each nest has a wooden threshold for the pigeons to land on during the return from flight and before entering the nest.
Equipment for pigeon houses
There is no need for there to be bowls for drinking or food in the nests. Rather, the pigeons' houses are provided with the following supplies:
1- Food containers:
There are two types of feeders: feeders placed inside the barn and flying monsters, long or circular, which are similar to poultry feeders, and each bird is allocated 12 cm of the length of the feeder. The second type of feeders is suspended outside the barn and outside the flying yard so that the pigeons get their food through openings 7 cm wide that allow the passage of the bird's head and neck only. The design of these feeders differs according to the method of feeding.
2- Drinking water containers:
Pigeons' houses can be provided with the same watering cans used for poultry, which are either inverted waterers with a capacity of 10-20 liters, or automatic waterers, or running water waterers may be used, where there is a faucet at one end of it, and at the other end an opening for draining water inside the flying yard.
3- Bowls of gravel, powdered seashells, limestone, and table salt:
It is placed in the house of the pigeon bird, and it may be circular or long and covered in a way that allows the birds to pick up its contents.
4- Bathtubs:
Circular metal basins with a diameter of 45 cm and a depth of 15 by 10 cm are placed in the flight yard.
5- Grass and Straw Box:
A box of straw (or flaps of wood) filled with straw or grass and dry leaves to help birds prepare their nests.
