For those interested in raising sheep.. Here are the ways to raise lambs

The feeding systems used for raising lambs differ according to the purpose of raising lambs, and the feeding system for lambs used in farm replacement operations differs from the feeding system of lambs to be fattened, and the type of food available has a role in determining the diet program to be followed.

And veterinary medicine in the United Kingdom explained the methods of raising lambs, which are as follows:

Upbringing on breastfeeding campaigns

In this system, the pregnancy continues to breastfeed its mother for an average of 3-4 months, during which the pregnancy does not get any fodder. This method is characterized by the high growth rate of the lambs. Good pasture and concentrated food must be provided to the mother during the lactation period, which in turn is reflected in the quantity and quality of the milk she breastfeeds.

Upbringing on artificial breastfeeding for campaigns

It is enough to leave the lambs to suckle from their mothers for a period of 1-3 days until they get colostrum, then they are separated from their mothers completely. The lambs should not be left to breastfeed their mothers for more than three days so that it is not difficult to accustom them to artificial feeding. Some resort to artificial feeding in the case of intensive production of sheep or under conditions Certain conditions, such as the death or disease of ewes and the lack of alternative ewes to adopt lambs, or in the event of a desire to expedite the entry of ewes into a new reproductive season.
The lambs are trained to use the necessary tools for artificial feeding.

Methods of artificial feeding for campaigns:

a) Feeding from buckets:

It uses buckets of certain sizes that are commensurate with the amount of milk to be given to the newborn, and also allow his head to be inserted into it easily. It is preferable to use one bucket for each pregnancy, and the buckets are made of stainless steel.

b) Feeding from a bucket with multiple nipples:

This type of bucket is used in the case of collective feeding, as one bucket contains about 3-5 nipples, and the bucket is placed on a special stand of a certain height commensurate with the age and size of the lambs.

c) Feeding from a bottle with a single nipple:

It is a graduated bottle equipped with a nipple to give the pregnancy its daily needs of milk or milk substitute, and this method requires extra labor, which makes it expensive.

d) Automatic feeding:

They are tanks that contain milk or its substitute at a required temperature. In this system, lambs can take their food needs at different times and according to their desire, and it is considered one of the best methods.

Feeding lambs by reservation:

It is an additional feeding system for lambs, in which food is placed for suckling lambs in a place designed in a special way, where there are barriers that allow the passage of suckling lambs only without the mothers, and the lambs begin to eat this food after the end of the first week of their life. The lambs can be fed in this system manually or using a specially designed food In particular, to accustom the lambs to gradually eating these foods, and the rate of food consumption increases, starting from the age of 6 weeks, when the mother's milk production begins to decrease. It is preferable for lambs to be graded on palatable diets such as corn, bran, soybean meal and molasses, which are among the best ingredients for the formation of these diets. The grain is presented crushed or ground during the first four weeks of gradation on feeding, after which the grain is presented properly in addition to providing hay.
Early grading of lambs on solid feeding helps the rumen develop quickly.
